FRENCH & ENGLISH ANTIQUES IN LONDON

We are based London's iconic King's Road............

Last week we had new arrivals in the shop and so have had a major move around. The fun of having a shop is that you can re-decorate on a weekly basis. We have a constantly changing supply of furniture and art work for the walls. This week, in the window, we have put an early 19th century French Empire commode below a late 17th century French landscape.

Exceptional Empire commode

Just inside the shop on the left we have a large French mahogany desk from the 1830's over which we have hung a collection of architectural drawings from between the end of the 19th century to the early 1930's

I love large pictures and large pieces of furniture and this English late 18th century Sideboard veneered in birds eye maple and mahogany is a massive seven feet wide
gillows sideboard

Above are a set of 12 pressed ferns put together in Jamaica in the 1880's by an English Army Officer, the golden colours of the ferns and the sideboard are mirrored by the water gilding on the frames

I love large pictures,  but I also love good quality antique prints........I started buying prints in my teens and have never stopped. The walls of our London house are covered from floor to ceiling. We always have sets of framed prints in the shop.

THE GARDEN IN WINTER

Two weekends ago we were under snow, bright blue skies and hard frosts

Last weekend its was all gone and the first signs of spring could be seen. The garden had become a garden of  textures .........................subtle colours that changed with the light

with a single flash of blue hidden amongst the dead leaves from last year

We are now officially in a drought so gardening will need to adapt......................
