THE KING'S ROAD, FLOWERS & PROVENCE

The mercury is rising and the whole of London is outside enjoying the sun. The air is thick with the scent of wisteria, I can't remember them having ever  been so vibrant, great mauve and purple festoons of flowers cascading down the fronts of the white stuccoed houses of Kensington, the magnolias are almost over  and the bright yellow of the mimosas now only a memory. Lavender is the chicest most desired plant in town, in New Covent Garden, the early morning flower market south of the river, it was every man for himself in the rush to grab what was available.

We are closing the shop from Good Friday till May 4th...........but are still open for business from our web site and 1stdibs

We are heading south to Provence to our own festoons of wisteria, warm evenings, lazy afternoons by the pool with a good book and dawn hunts in the early morning mists for wonderful antiques to fill the shop. These are all things I love to do.............and then there is the time to prepare wonderful meals. The local markets are full to bursting point with fresh fruit, gleaming vegetables, cheeses, olives sausages..........I could go for ever but then I also love cooking!

Salad: Water melon, fetta cheese and fresh mint with virgin olive oil, lemon juice and rock salt.

NAME PICTURES, BIRTHDAYS AND OTHER THINGS

When I am not being and antiques dealer I am painting name pictures for children, last week end came up with some new fun, painted frames for them

spotty frame         blue spots and stripes

pink spots

They can all be seen on my site Children's Name Pictures  ..................

Monday was Charles birthday and a tradition in our businesses dictates everyone gets a cake given by the person whose birthday it is.

We had cupcakes for every member of our two businesses with their names in icing from the Chelsea Cake Shop in lower Sloane Street, what a wonderful place!! The most divine cakes I have ever seen.............

PORTOBELLO

Fresh orange juice is one of the little luxuries of life and blood oranges are so exotic...............

Friday morning we often go to the market in Portobello Road to buy fruit and veg, better known for the antiques stalls on a Saturday this is also the best place I know for fruit and veg. there is also an Italian stall selling virgin olive oil and other Italian goodies, a French stall sell the best cheeses and sausages and my favorite stall for flowers and plants. Most of the hellebores growing in the garden came from this wonderful stall.

Raining or sunny the stall holders are there........

Portobello cat, sits on his windowsill pensively staring into space with his friends..............from there we head for our shops in the King's Road. This time of year I am always amazed by the flowering trees, every year they seem to be better and this is no exception, something I don't remember form a few years back are the glorious bright yellow Mimosa or wattle trees, they and the magnolias have been wonderful.

Magnolia tree in the Boltons

My Wattle Tree, that is growing in our back garden in Notting Hill. These trees originally imported from Australia  are now native across most of southern Europe,  and seem to be  surviving the English winters.

We always have framed sets botanical prints usually 18th and early 19th century they can be seen on
